Active Applecross Community eBikes Project

“Promoting active travel in Applecross“

In 2019, the Applecross Community Company were awarded £16,706 for the purchase of 10 electric bikes, bike accessories and associated maintenance equipment from Cycling Scotland and the Energy Saving Trust. ACC also Match Funded £3,976 for the project.

The project, “Active Applecross”, launched in October 2019 to promote cycling in the community by increasing access to bikes and opportunities to cycle. The project also included maintenance training and engagement activities to encourage the uptake of cycling. We have purchased the eBikes from Volt Bikes.

As part of the project, ACC offers a free 2-week trial for all primary residents in Applecross (16 or older). Applecross residents are also able to hire the eBikes on a 6-monthly basis.

We are delighted that Applecross residents have really embraced the eBikes and made good use of them, with over 3,000 miles cycled on them so far! The bikes have brought joy to many and opened up new opportunities for exercising, commuting to work, doing school/nursery runs and recreational activities. We are now considering options for the future of the eBikes out with of ACC having the responsibility for the bikes.

The Energy Saving Trust also offer an interest-free loan to all Scottish residents for the purchase of an eBike. Click here to read more on their website.
