“Promoting local growing, recycling, minimising food waste and healthy eating in Applecross”
The Appleseed group was formed in 2018 as an outcome of the Applecross Forum and is developing a community allotment in the field behind the hydro station. The project has created individual allotments, as well as a communal space and polytunnel, along with composting facilities. It promotes local growing, recycling, minimising food waste and healthy eating. The space is also be ideal for workshops and community events.
In 2020, the Appleseed Community Allotments project successfully secured funding from the Scottish Government’s Climate Challenge Fund (CCF). The project was over a two-year period and included funding for a project officer and part-time administrator.
Appleseed was also awarded funding from the Applecross Community Council SSE fund and Scottish Sea Farms. Thank you to the Applecross Trust for helping us establish the project.
The CCF project has now ended, but Appleseed continues to be managed by a group of volunteers successfully.
