“Providing broadband for our
remote community”
Our community broadband scheme, AppleNet, was established in 2014 and provides broadband to residents of Applecross (and beyond). It was developed under the Community Broadband Scotland (CBS) scheme and was one of eight pilot projects in Scotland. This is a vital service for the community, without which many residents would have a very limited/no internet connection.
It is a radio-based network and receives its internet backhaul from HUBS, via Mallaig High School. The network has 6 hilltop masts exposed to the wild Scottish weather, and so regular maintenance and servicing is required.
